A wild idea to make a bold decorating statement

Ready to be a little wild in your decorating?

The secret to good decorating is to be bold and creative without ever being tasteless. Here’s an idea which is unique enough to get attention, yet will never be out of place.

Instead of just flowers in a silk arrangement, use feathers! Feathers bring an added bit of texture and life to the standard silk flower display. Pheasant and peacock feathers will add height and drama. Bright colored feathers will make your display eye-catching and unique. To add softness to a bouquet, try ostrich plumes..

You may want to leave the flowers out and make your arrangement entirely out of feathers. An interesting container can serve as a wonderful starting point. Search for one with an animal skin motif. Duck feathers in a leather container will add a manly feel to any office or gameroom. Short feathers at the base, with spikes of pheasant plumes, create an attention drawing piece for a buffet or hall table.

Exotic feathers can add spice to a bedroom. Put them out with candles for a special night, and create a very romantic mood. You might even try a boa for yourself!

Look outdoors for feathers of local birds from your area. You can use these to make a statement about your love of where you’ve chosen to live. Take a walk in a nearby wooded park and soon you’ll have a collection from local birds. Typically these are small feathers, yet they’ll say "home" in a cute display on an end table.

Search the floral section of your favorite craft store for interesting natural items such as moss, twigs and dried seeds to add to your design. A skilled florist will help you change these elements into a stunning display for your home.

Don’t be afraid to experiment. You’re sure to draw interesting comments and with reasonable consideration, you’ll add a stimulating look to any room.

Home design tips

Home design is not only a big business; it can be very enjoyable for you the homeowner. When you’re building your home, or just giving your present home a makeover, taking the lead role in your home design can be a very rewarding experience. Doing your own home design allows you to express yourself in a way that no one else can do for you. Choices not only become easier when you do your own home design, but you’ll find that you have more of them than if you’d hired a professional to do it for you.

One of the first things you should consider in your home design project is the function of the room you’re working on. Function is a key home design factor. It will dictate the majority of what items will go into the room. Two major points in function to consider is the intended use of the room and who will be using it. Naturally, a room which will receive high traffic would need more resilient flooring and furniture than a room which would not get as much traffic. Knowing what the room is going to be used for and by whom is the first step in home design.

Style is another key factor in home design. After the function of the room is determined, you’ll need to decide the style of dйcor you’ll be incorporating in your home design. Certainly a family game room would have a more modern style with clean lines, while a country kitchen may have more of a cottage style or rustic home design. Fabrics like furniture, drapes, throws and pillows would play a major role in the feel of the room. Colors used properly in home design can alter a person’s mood upon entering the room. Earthy tones and light blues have a calming effect, while bright reds and contrasting colors can create a sense of excitement. Style when used properly can make any room a success story.

The placement of items and objects in a room will always alter the flow of movement to both the body and the eye. Flow is yet another key factor in home design. The flow of the room is crucial, as you don’t want the room to be awkward to navigate. This not only applies to the person moving across the room, but also the eye of the person moving from one part of the room to another. Of course the physical flow in home design is achieved by the placement of furniture such as sofas, chairs and tables. The eye flow of the room can be controlled by the decorative items placed in the room, as well as how the room is painted. Colors which flow easily into each other create a nice even sense of movement to the eye from one area to another.

Home design should never be a daunting challenge, but rather an enjoyable experience to those who wish to do their own home design. By following the three major factors of function, style and flow, every home design project you complete will be a successful one.

Creating an office that is effective for a home business

For many home business owners, running a business at home can create the problem of being distracted by every little thing. The telephone, television, kids, visiting neighbors, and even pets become a distraction when the home office isn’t set up properly because it is still integrated into the other parts of the home. A proper home office should allow you to have a space in which you can focus on your work, and where you are not even tempted to become distracted by other aspects of life. Investing in creating a proper home office will increase the way that you value your business, and in turn you will see an increase in productivity and profits.

The primary goal to a home office is to separate the space from other parts of the home. If you do not have an extra room to devote to your home office, you can create a separate space with screens or curtains. Visually blocking off the space asserts the difference between living area and working area to both yourself and others.

It is also key to have a separate phone line. It’s virtually impossible to get any work done if the phone is ringing every ten minutes because the kids’ dentist is calling, or your aunt wants to chat for half an hour. Make sure that you distribute your business phone number to clients, employees and employers only.

Make sure that there is adequate lighting for reading and doing paperwork. Also make sure that you have your career goals posted in sight – these will remind you to get back to work when your mind starts straying. Remember, you will only benefit from the amount of work that you actually get done!

Also, post your daily schedule somewhere that you will see it. This schedule should map out the way that you will divide your time between family, leisure and work. By doing this, you will avoid taking extremely long lunch breaks, or running out the door to pick up that item you forgot to get at the grocery store when it pops into your mind.

Finally, make your space a place you want to be! By making your office inviting, you will probably enjoy your work more and find yourself gravitating toward it instead of being repelled by it. Just make sure that it’s not overly inviting – afternoon snoozes are a big no no!

Decorating tips for area rugs

Instead of replacing your flooring, consider decorating with area rugs. There are plenty of options out there when it comes to these rugs. You can dress up a hallway or add color to a bedroom. They are easy to find, affordable to purchase and they offer you the ability to move them around as you see fit. With so many benefits of area rugs, you can easily add these to your home for a beautiful, dramatic look change.

Benefits Of Area Rugs

There are many benefits to area rugs including these.

• Affordable solution to your decorating dilemma. Replacing flooring for the room is costly and the labor is even more costly. Selecting an area rug is easy to do and there is no labor to laying it down.

• Offers a dynamic change instantly. When you add an area rug to a room, the colors of the room come out. The rug can be an accent to your current flooring. It can add character, texture and elegance to virtually any area of the home.

• There are a wide range of choices for you to select from. Many of the most common color pairings are available. There are also many different patterns to select from. You can even have them custom made if you would like.

When it comes to purchasing area rugs for your decorating needs, you need to keep several things in mind. You should not go out and just pick any rug that you find. Instead, you should consider all the things that have the ability to add value, comfort and style to the room. The bottom line is to find a rug that you love, but you can also find a rug that is perfect in these ways as well.

Determine The Area’s Needs

The first thing to do is to determine the needs that you have for this area of your home. Let’s say that you would like to add an area rug to your dining room. Take the time to measure out the size of the room or the section that you would like the rug to cover. Don’t guess! More people make mistakes with guessing the wrong size than anything else.

Consider your current flooring. What color is it? You can easily benefit from purchasing an area rug that is an accent to your flooring’s color. You may even be able to select the same type of pattern that your flooring has into the carpet. If the two do not match (the current flooring that will be exposed and your area rug) you will not have a good overall look to the room. But, if they do accent each other, the possibilities are endless.

Consider your room’s atmosphere. If you are placing the area rug into an area of your home that has a specific theme or look, you should insure that you honor that with your addition of an area rug. You may find that the area rug is one that offers a lot of colors and patterns. In some cases, people will design the entire room of their home around the look of a perfect area rug that they find. If you are looking for an elegant finish, consider an area rug that offers rich tones and a gorgeous, intricate pattern.

Finally, you need to consider the traffic that will be in the room. If you will be placing an area rug under a table that your small children eat off of, you may want to look for less of a quality product or purchase something that can be cleaned easily. If near a door, consider the amount of traffic coming in here as well.

Determine The Right Area Rug

The next thing on your list is to select the right area rug based on its qualifications for being in your home. There are several things that you should consider when it comes to the rug that you are purchasing. Taking the time to look at these details will insure that the product you are purchasing is well worth the cost.

• Color. This is probably the first thing that you will look at. If the color and pattern of the rug is not going to fit into your room’s scheme, then there is no need to go any farther. You need it to work well with the colors in the room.

• Material. The material of the area rug should be well fitting into the room. There are plenty of options here. Many enjoy the beauty of the oriental rugs. Some enjoy a gorgeous Persian rug. Still others are looking for a wool rug. No matter what your needs are, selection of the right material will offer you the comfort that you are looking for. It adds the right texture to the room as well.

• Quality. It goes without saying that an investment in an area rug should take the quality of the product in mind. You will pay a good deal for a quality rug. Yet, it will last longer, offer a better dynamic and look, and it will add more value to your home than a poor quality choice.

• Price. When considering all of these elements, you will need to consider the cost of them as well. There is no doubt that a high quality product is going to cost you more than one that is less quality. But, in the long run, the cost difference can be made up by the fact that it lasts longer and you love it. Determine what your budget is, then consider the best quality options in that budget.

Decorating with area rugs is easy to do when you consider these aspects. If you are in the market for a beautiful rug, go for the look that is the most amazing and perfect for your room and your tastes. Follow these tips to insure that the end result is well worth it.

Tackling the toughest painting tasks with innovative painting tapes

Achieving painting perfection is easy for even the shakiest hand when the project involves a flat piece of drywall that can be simply trimmed and taped. Arched doorways, spindles, intricate windows or baseboards call for more than the traditional straight-edged masking tapes. While taping off walls and trim makes any job easier, masking these areas can be the most challenging part of the job. To curb the fear and ease the stress, special painting tapes are available to mask every complicated and hard-to-reach surface. These tools simplify the prepping and painting process and garner the results of a professional painter.

Paint Circles Around Problems

Painting projects involving bowed architecture and rounded edges are difficult when using traditional, rigid painting tapes intended only for straight lines. Protecting these areas has now become easier with the exceptional pliability of Curved Masking Tape. Maneuverable around any rounded design, including arched doorways, half-moon windows and even doorknobs, this unique painting tape eases painting preparation and improves the final results. Curved Masking Tape can even add to an artist's creativity, as it can be easily positioned to create rounded designs, like circles and clouds, on otherwise plain, nontextured walls.

Back Troubles Into A Corner

Masking off window corners is one of the most tedious parts of any paint job. From French doors to glass cabinets, painting around windows is an undesirable task. The use of masking tape on corners helps to simplify this process by increasing precision. Appropriately called Quick Corners, each pre-shaped corner forms a 90-degree angle that fits into every window corner and masks off the perfect shape. By simply connecting the corners with strips of window-safe painter's tape, the glass is protected, exposing only the trim sill in need of painting. Once the job is complete, simply remove the tape and corners by pulling and lifting the nonstick tab.

Avoid The Floor,

Get The Baseboards

Using drop cloths to protect the floor when painting baseboards is a no-brainer. However, old sheets or tarps are cumbersome and often shift during use. Pretaped Drop Cloths feature a pretaped edge that helps the cloths stay in place while fully exposing the baseboard for painting. Statically treated to cling to the carpet or hardwood surfaces, the drop cloth is ideal for catching splattering paint and containing dust when sanding. Drop cloths with a professional-grade masking tape also make painting and protecting chair rails and other decorative elements much easier, both during use and clean-up, as they remove cleanly from drywall, wood and glass.

By using products designed to simplify the preparation process, homeowners can take on the toughest painting tasks and finish with professional results they can proudly say they did themselves.

Kitchen decorating ideas can bring the world s cuisine home to you

Kitchen decorating ideas are frequently based around choosing the right colors and paying attention to the little details. Remember that the kitchen is an important part of your house, where your family will gather, and guests will frequently have a seat. This being said, decorating the kitchen should be done with comfort, friendliness, practicality, and appeal in mind.

Among the most popular easy kitchen decorating ideas is the Italian decorating style. It combines traditional and modern elements for grace and elegance, with charm and comfort. This makes it a place where people can gather in your home not only to eat and prepare food, but also just to be together.

If you are thinking of Italian kitchen decorating trends, then you will need to begin by concentrating on color. This theme needs you to create a warm feel with your color, which simply cannot be achieved with white walls. Your interior decorating kitchen will be all about warm oranges, yellows, reds, and greens. This takes away every element of starkness, replacing it with an inviting feel.

Additional kitchen decorating tips for this theme include using Italian-style pictures and pottery in the right colors to continue the style throughout the details of the room.

The next stage of your kitchen decorating is to work your space properly. Remember that space doesn’t always have to be filled. Many ideas for decorating a kitchen in the Italian style involve leaving some space untouched, removing any hint of clutter. The room should look lived in, and not be comparable to a showcase.

This will mean that your Italian kitchen decorating idea will need to use every bit of hidden storage possible to achieve the “open” look of the style. You can also use additional visible storage as long as you do it in the Italian style, such as hanging pots and pans from rails on the ceiling.

No matter the style you choose, your kitchen decorating ideas should be all about making the space work for you, while still managing to look great.
